Private: favorites, collections and history
Share sheet: a name turned into a card, ready to send

Features

A name is worth having when you know where it came from.

01

Source, original line, and story on one screen

Every name says where it comes from: the work it appears in, its lineage, its temperament, how common it is — each on its own line. Where a reliable original text exists, the book and the sentence are given; the story and the meaning are written by hand, not stitched from a template.

  • Source, lineage, temperament, rarity and collection, each on its own line
  • Reliable originals come with the book and the exact sentence
  • Characters open too: meaning, strokes, imagery and commonness

Browse names the way you scroll a feed

Four places: Browse is a searchable grid, Encounter is one name per screen, Plaza is the directory of curators and collections, and Private keeps your favorites, follows and history. Filter by category, sort, jump to a work, a collection or a curator; one search returns six groups at once — characters, names, curators, collections, works and categories.

  • Browse: names and characters each in a grid, filterable by lineage, temperament, imagery, rarity, gender and reduplication
  • Encounter: one name per screen — pull to move on, double-tap to favorite
  • Plaza: browse curators and collections by person, work, school, period, place and imagery

The library lives on your device

Names, characters, curators, collections and the license ledger all ship inside the app bundle. The app makes no network requests at all — checked on both the source and the shipped binary. Browsing, favorites, history and search records are written only to your device.

  • Zero network: no accounts, no servers, no analytics, no tracking
  • No photo library, camera, microphone or location access
  • Deleting the app deletes everything it stored
Private: favorites, collections and history

Where a name comes from

Lineages are grouped as poetry, works, the present, people, loanwords and myth; under works, further into film, web fiction, games and variety shows. Every name shows the collection and the curator it belongs to.

Turn a name into a card

Questions, answered

Is it fortune-telling?

No. No mysticism, no masters, no fortune or auspiciousness scores. It puts names with a real source in front of you, and you decide.

Where is my data stored?

On your device. The library ships in the bundle; favorites, history and search records are written inside the app sandbox. The developer runs no servers and holds none of your data. Deleting the app clears it.

Does it use the network?

No. The app makes no network requests — verified on both sides: no networking API in the source, no networking framework linked into the shipped binary. That is also why it never prompts for cellular data.

Does it support iPad?

Not yet. It is an iPhone app today (iOS 17 or later, portrait). An iPad version is planned.

Is there an English version?

Not yet — the app is Simplified Chinese only, with no in-app language switch.

When does it ship?

Still in development and polish. This page will be updated when it reaches the App Store.

The next good name is not in a master's mouth. It is on the next screen.
